NICKEL COBALT – PCAM – RECYCLING

Sibanye Stillwater is a mining and metallurgical group, very successful in Gold and PGM, in South Africa and in the USA. It is thus fully integrated in automotive industry supply chain (Volkswagen, Stellantis, Mercedes…) with BASF and UMICORE as partners. It has decided to deploy a Battery Metals Strategy in Europe, the first concrete step being a Lithium Mine and Refinery in Finland (Keliber 600 M€ turnover 2025), and is a first time partner of Verkor with Renault.

Sibanye Stillwater has several projects in France, dedicated to Electric Vehicles Gigafactories, that could be potentially combined:

Produce NiSO4 battery grade from ex-mine Nickel
Produce Li(OH) battery grade
Recycle Gigafactories scraps
Recycle black mass from End of Life batteries

In order to implement these projects, process and negineeringstudy are carried out while partnerships are being established with different upstream and downstream key players.
